for me the answer is easy: Vol 4
then Master of Reality, Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Sabotage, Technical Ecstasy, Never Say Die

hmmmm...
11/20I'm pretty torn here...
so ...
I'll say Master Of Reality, Volume 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Paranoid, Black Sabbath, Sabotage, Never Say Die, Technical Ecstasy. That's the best order I can come up with. -

Re: hmmmm...
04/06I cant play Favs when it comes to (classic B Sabbath) though after
Mob Rules my interest wanes a bit!
-
-
Re: hmmmm...
04/06yea, I didn't even consider any albums after Never Say Die.
Geezer, Tony and Bill are great, but without Ozzy, it ain't Sabbath... -
-
-
Re: hmmmm...
04/20Hmm... I would have to say
Master Of Reality, Paranoid, Black Sabbath (Wicked World Rules), Volume 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Sabotage, Technical Ecstasy, and then last but not least Never Say Die! After Ozzy, Sabbath was never the same, Born Again and Seventh Star were just plain wrong, especially when Sabbath were playin "Smoke On The Water" live just because of Gillan. So sad... so sad... -
-
Re: hmmmm...
05/03well...Vol. 4....ya it's smokin', but it was the album Paranoid that made me pick up the bass.
Disciple..., I agree, sad, very very sad.
Sabbath without Ozzy put out some rockin' tunes, but they should NOT have come from a band calling themselves Black Sabbath.
~D~ -
-
This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.I can't seriously call them Black Sabbath without Ozzy singing.
-
-
I totaly agree...But I still like the Dio tunes.
-
-
I can do without Dio, whether it is Black Sabbath, Rainbow, or anything else. He annoys the crap out of me for some reason.
-
-
I like Dio, but it was just wrong having him sing for Black Sabbath. Yeah, his songs were good, I must say I love Lady Evil, Children Of The Sea, Heaven And Hell, and The Sign Of The Southern Cross, but they shouldn't have called themselves Sabbath, it was sacriligeous.
Even moreso with Ian Gillan and Glenn Hughes. I have nothing against Deep Purple, hell, I love Deep Purple, but neither one of those guys did Sabbath the kind of justice Ozzy did. Martin was another good singer, but again, they should NOT have called themselves Sabbath. -

Re: favorite albums?
12/01Just joined. Benn on Tribe for a little bit and - duh - Black Sabbath... of course!
Picking my fav album is like a Xtian picking a favorite version of the Bible.
My all time fav song is National Acrobat
"Love has given life to you, and now it's your concern."
and Supernaut
"Don't try and reach me 'cos I'll tear up your mind. I've seen your future and I've left it behind."
...ahh, how many souls has Sabbath saved from the bland hrdes of Abraham's followers... -

Re: favorite albums?
01/11My personal Sabbath rankings:
1. Sabotage (Megalomania, Hole in the Sky, Symptom of the Universe, just a great album from top to bottom)
2. Paranoid (Yeah, it's their most famous one, but Electric Funeral and Hand of Doom make it rock)
3. Black Sabbath (The title track rules, and Bill Ward actually jams on Beyond the Wall of Sleep)
4. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (Another good title track, and how about A Natural Acrobat. A true underrated classic)
5. Master of Reality (Lord of This World is another one of their underrated classics. Also, in some strange way, I like Solitude. I don't know why)
6. Heaven and Hell (A Dio album??? Sacrilege. Seriously, the album is one of their heaviest albums ever, and Dio does rule. Admit it, he does)
7. Vol 4 (Starts off great, but contains Changes, which is a downer)
8. Mob Rules (Yet another Dio album. Horrors. Get over it. The Sign of the Southern Cross is a classic, and the title track is great)
9. Never Say Die (Ozzy's original swan song. Love the title track, Junior's Eyes and Air Dance. Why is Bill Ward singing a song???)
10. Technical Ecstacy (You can tell they were going through the motions on this one. There is no standout song on this one. And, again, what's with Bill Ward singing???)
11. Dehumanizer (I would rank this ahead of the other two, but I don't want to get thrown off the tribe. The last of the Dio albums, and Sabbath's last good album. Time Machine rules, you know it does)
12. Everything else (It's all crap. I've never heard any of the Tony Martin albums, and I don't ever care to (I did see a video for Headless Cross, and it sounded like every other 80s band). Someone said that Born Again was a heavy album. That someone was fucking wrong. I turned it into Record Exchange. And how about Black Sabbath Featuring Tony Iommi? Ozzy needs to divorce Sharon and get back in the studio with these guys, stat, and get a new album out. They can only play Iron Man so many more times before it gets old.) -

Re: favorite albums?
07/01Never Say Die
I like Dehumanizer alot. It was out for a loooooong time before I finally got into it.
Heaven & Hell is classic.
But I like them all. I never really got into Born Again though. Wasnt Ian Gillian singing for them on that tour? He was great singing for Deep Purple Perfect Strangers at the 1985 Texas Jamm. And Ritchie Blackmore was a fucking GOD!!!

Re: favorite albums?
05/02Damn thats hard!
Vol IV
Paranoid
Master of Reality/Sabotage
Black Sabbath
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
But ya know what it could change tomorrow.
I gotta point out that these have gotta be on the Original Vertigo Vinyl or WWA in the case of SBS. Cos the NEMS copies sound like they are wrapped in Rubber and the early cd's ain't worth mentioning, the later remasters are better but nowhere near as great sounding as the 'riginal Vert vinyls. So there!!!

Re: favorite albums?
05/10Can't pick fave of the Ozzy Set. It's like trying to pick your favorite Tony Iommi riff! Can't do it.
But I can say that two albums in particular had a profound influence on my life and musical interests/tastes at the time of their release.
I was flailing around in pubescence when Sabbath Bloody Sabbath came out. "Looking for Today", actually kicked my ass. "When was the last time that you cried?!" Still makes me weepy. Parents divorcing at the time. Some fucked up family shit.
But when Sabbotage came out, I thought I had died and flown through the "Hole in the Sky." Then was overcome with "Symtoms of the Universe." Power Chords from Hell, that's Tony Iommi for ya. And then there's "The Writ." Still startles me at the intro.
The first time I ever saw them live, December 1977, Long Beach arena. Wasn't old enough to drive yet so it was like... "Mom, can you drive me and Jon to the Black Sabbath Concert?"
Mom "The Whaaaaaaa?!"
She did. Right on ma.
Hearing a set list mainly of the SBS/Sabbotage PLAYED LIVE by my favorite fucking band ever, was highly impactive in my Rock'n'Roll formative years.
Ozzy! Ozzy! Ozzy!
Oie! Oie! Oie!
